Dental Implants or Implantology

Dental implants are usually small titanium cylinders or screws that act as an artificial root. They are surgically placed into the jaw bone to replace teeth that are missing or damaged. It acts as an anchor for false teeth/bridge or a single tooth. They are also used to hold dentures in place. The procedure is better for your teeth than original bridge work beacuse it does not rely on the neighboring teeth to anchor the bridge. Though the procedure is relatively new the success rate has been very impressive. Dental implants are a great option for people in good general oral health that might have lost a tooth or teeth due to an injury, gum disease, or another periodontal malady. Advancements continue to bring the implant system to new hights of success. Dental implants look very natural and feel more like your natural teeth than prior teeth replacement methods. These teeth feel so natural you might even forget they are not. This is the best way for people that fave lost all their teeth to have a full set of teeth again.

Dental Implants can be used to:

  • Anchor a fixed bridge
  • Replace a single tooth
  • Provide stability for complete dentures
  • Sustain loose teeth by being splinted to them
  • Maintain replacement teeth in an entirely toothless jaw

If a dental implant restoration is constructed well one should be able to tell that the teeth are not the original or natural teeth, not even the patient. Before, dental implants were exclusively used in patients missing teeth or patients that had problems with their dentures. The procedure can be done anywhere from one day to 3 months for your lower jaw with the upper jaw taking a little longer and up to six months for most patients. but that depends on the work that you need to have done, how bad the area has decayed or if the bone needs to be buit up.

Your teeth say a lot about whom you are and how other people perceive you and the condition and health of your teeth can have immeasurable self-esteem and confidence building power. It is important that you maintain your teeth in good condition but if nature needs a helping hand this procedure is the next best thing to having your natural teeth in place. This will become more and more popular as our life expectancy increases and we find ourselves out living our teeth.
